There are a few different access areas to the dam and some beautiful picnic or rest areas along the way. Begin at the Fountain Springs rest area on the highway and follow on from the track to Ballara, passing by the Corella River and the site of the old Ballara township, to Fountain Springs - a permanent waterhole with abundant birdlife.

Beware of unmarked open mine shafts. The track was used in the filming of Crocodile Dundee.
